Batt insulation is the standard thermal insulation for exterior wall cavities - we install fiberglass batts for regular construction and mineral wool (Roxul) where fire-rated assemblies are required. Batt Insulation for Exterior Walls

Exterior walls in custom homes and multiplexes require thermal insulation to meet Ontario Building Code energy requirements. Batt insulation fills the stud cavities between framing members, providing R-20 to R-24 thermal resistance depending on wall depth. We install batts properly fitted to each cavity - no gaps, no compression - for maximum thermal performance.

Types of Batt Insulation

• Fiberglass Batts – Standard thermal insulation for exterior walls in custom homes - cost-effective with excellent R-value
• Mineral Wool (Roxul) – Required for fire-rated wall assemblies - provides thermal, fire, and acoustic performance

Fiberglass vs Mineral Wool

For regular custom homes, fiberglass batts are the standard choice - they're cost-effective and provide excellent thermal performance. Mineral wool (Roxul Comfortbatt or Roxul Safe'n'Sound) is used where fire-rated assemblies are specified. Some fire-rated wall assemblies specifically require mineral wool batts; others accept either fiberglass or mineral wool. We install the correct product per your project specifications.

Proper Installation Matters

Batt insulation performance depends entirely on installation quality. Batts must be cut precisely to fit each cavity without gaps at edges or compression that reduces R-value. Around electrical boxes, pipes, and other obstructions, batts must be split and fitted carefully. Our installers are trained to achieve the full rated R-value through proper technique.
