Basement insulation services in Toronto. Keep your basement warm and dry with professional insulation installation.
Konstruction Group provides professional basement insulation services for new custom homes, multiplexes, and basement renovations throughout Toronto. Basement walls are typically insulated with spray foam applied directly to the foundation - this provides superior moisture protection and thermal performance in below-grade environments. We also insulate rim joists, cold rooms, and other basement areas per Ontario Building Code requirements. Our insulation work coordinates with framing and drywall for complete basement finishing.

Spray foam is the preferred insulation for basement walls. Applied directly to concrete foundation walls, closed-cell spray foam provides both insulation and moisture protection without the need for separate vapor barriers. The foam bonds to concrete, fills all gaps, and eliminates the cold surfaces that cause condensation problems in basements.
Basements present unique insulation challenges - concrete walls, moisture migration from soil, and potential for condensation. Spray foam addresses all of these issues. Closed-cell foam is impermeable to moisture, preventing water vapor from reaching interior finishes. It also provides the highest R-value per inch, important where space is limited. For these reasons, spray foam is our standard recommendation for basement walls.
Some homeowners prefer rigid foam board insulation for basement walls instead of spray foam. We install rigid foam boards against foundation walls when this is the owner's preference. This approach requires careful attention to sealing edges and joints, and may require additional framing. It's a viable alternative but requires more labor and typically achieves lower effective R-values than spray foam.

We evaluate foundation walls, moisture conditions, and discuss insulation options.

Typical timeline: Same dayBasement wall spray foam typically costs $3-$5 per square foot for 2-inch closed-cell application. A typical basement with 500 sq ft of wall area might run $1,500-$2,500 for spray foam. Rigid board installations cost similarly but require additional framing. We provide quotes based on your specific basement.
Ontario Building Code requires minimum R-20 for basement walls in new construction. This is typically achieved with 2-3 inches of closed-cell spray foam (R-12 to R-21) or a combination of spray foam and batt insulation. We install to meet code requirements for your project.
Spray foam is generally better for basement walls because it bonds directly to concrete, provides moisture protection, and seals all gaps. Rigid board is a viable alternative but requires more careful installation to prevent moisture issues at edges and seams. Most of our customers choose spray foam.
Closed-cell spray foam at sufficient thickness acts as its own vapor barrier - no separate poly is required. This is one of the advantages of spray foam in basement applications. Open-cell spray foam or rigid board installations may require additional vapor control depending on the assembly.
Insulating an existing finished basement requires removing drywall to access foundation walls. If you're already renovating and walls are open, we can add insulation. For intact finished basements, the cost and disruption of removing finishes must be weighed against energy benefits.
Basement floor insulation is not typically required by code and is less common. Some homeowners install rigid foam under subfloors for comfort, especially with in-floor heating. We focus primarily on wall and rim joist insulation where energy loss is greatest.
